Benefits of Bamboo and Swaddling

Bamboo is known as the strongest woody grass on earth, and it can withstand harsh weather and wind conditions all while being the fastest growing plant on earth. According to Bamboo Village, “Once harvested, bamboo can replenish itself within a year and some species grow a whopping 120cm per day! It is a naturally prolific and resilient plant, which does not need fertilisers to boost its growth, or pesticides since bamboo is naturally pest-resistant.” [1]

Did you know that this thick green plant is also very eco friendly, and it is essential to satisfy some of our most basic needs? Aside from the many physical benefits bamboo offers, it has been used for many centuries within the Asian culture for cooking, medicine, textiles, and transport. But what about the benefits to wearing bamboo clothing, and using a bamboo swaddle?

#1 Eco Friendly

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth, and it requires little to no water or pesticides. In comparison, cotton farming uses a massive amount of irrigation and chemical coverage just to produce. “A single cotton T-shirt can use up to 2700 litres of water in the growing process!  Bamboo is by far the greener option.” [1] Once you are done using bamboo, it can be recycled and it makes a small footprint on the environment. Why are we not using more bamboo everywhere?

#2 Super Soft

Aside from being really resilient and durable, it is also one of the softest materials to the touch, and makes a great piece of clothing or bed sheet! It is way more absorbent than cotton is, and it also is breathable and has natural UV protection. Babies can especially benefit from this amazing fabric against their virgin skin.

#3 Anti-Bacterial

It naturally has antibacterial properties in the fibers no matter how often it is washed. Because bacteria does not live long in bamboo, it also gets rid of odors too. This is great when you want to work out in bamboo clothing because it will not adopt funky smells over long periods of time. [2]

#4 Hypoallergenic

Bamboo clothing is organic, and it is hypoallergenic which makes it friendly for all! The soft fibers do not irritate the skin, and make it optimal for children and babies! On top of it being allergy free, it also helps with temperature regulation in young ones. Young babies do not have the ability to regulate their body temperatures and bamboo naturally acts as a thermal regulator. #mindblown!

#5 Bamboo Swaddle Benefits

Get yourself a bamboo swaddle. Just do it! It is much different than a regular cotton muslin or spandex like swaddle. There are so many upfront benefits to swaddling your child in the first place and they are:

  1. Longer sleep
  2. Soothes a crying baby
  3. Promotes lower and more stable heart rate
  4. Decreased SIDS risk
  5. Emulates a mother's touch. [3]

The bamboo swaddle is breathable and it is extremely soft, all while helping with temperature regulation. There are many positives as long as it is done safely. Never wrap a baby too tightly and make sure they are able to freely breathe. Otherwise, the benefits are great as long as the baby enjoys the swaddle!
